Sandy Denny Sketches
I’ve Always Kept a Unicorn: The Biography of Sandy Denny by Mick Houghton
Faber & Faber
A new biography of Sandy Denny is published this week. Mick Houghton’s account covers Sandy’s time as an art student at Kingston in 1965, and during his research for the book he uncovered these sketches by a young Denny, made during her time studying at Knights Park. In these two portrait sketches, she depicts her mother and American folk singer Jackson C. Frank.
Mick Houghton will be reading extracts from his book and signing copies at Kingston Museum as part of our Art School Counterculture event on Thursday 5th March, 5-7pm. The evening will also feature poets, musicians, actors and dancers inspired by the 60s counterculture atmosphere of the art school, of which Sandy Denny was a vital part.
